An air-tight chamber is fitted with guide rollers for the continuous feeding of metal strip through the chamber in which nozzles spray the molten metal onto at least one side of the strip. The consolidating rolls rotate at different speeds, and the roll in contact with the coating rotates at a slower peripheral speed than that of the strip in order to compact the coating. The other roll in each pair of consolidating rolls rotates at the strip speed. The temp. in the chamber is pref. kept above the m. pt. of the molten metal, which is sprayed from nozzles fitted with an ultrasonic vibrator. A very versatile plant contg. an inert atmos. and in which the same or different metals can be sprayed onto the two sides of the strip.
