<p>The cutting machine for leaf tobacco has a hopper (1) into which leaf tobacco is deposited from a vibratory conveyor (3). The leaf material is pushed forwards by a swinging plate (6) forming the back of the hopper. The material is then carried forwards towards a mouthpiece (23) between two belt conveyors (8, 9) one above the other, and conveying towards the mouthpiece end. The upper belt conveyor (8) is preceeded by a cutting screw (31) at right angles to the direction of tobacco travel (7). One end of the screw passes through the side of the hopper, so that excess cut tobacco is discharged onto a return belt conveyor alongside, for recycling. The screw can be raised and lowered under the control of a device mounted adjacent the mouthpiece.</p> |
