Compounds of the formula <IMAGE> in which A represents C4-C8-alkylene and R<1> represents C4-C10-alkyl, are prepared by oxidation of an appropriate 9-hydroxy compound whose carboxyl group is protected if necessary and whose other hydroxy groups are protected, and subsequent removal of the protective groups. The compounds and their salts have an oxytocic action, virtually no hypotensive and intestine-contracting properties, and can be used as oxytocic agents.
