Armour plate capable of resisting piercing projectiles - is weldable steel plate covered with carbide forming alloy deposit

The projectile resistant armour plate has low weight, and is used in armoured fighting vehicle, aircraft and assault boats. On a thick, tough plate is deposited a layer of higher hardness. The plate is made from weldable rolled steel. The hard deposit consists of a carbide forming steel alloy. The latter can contain 3-5%C and 20-35% Cr, balance Fe. This steel alloy may contain also W, Nb and Mo.
