Evaporation of liquids in multi-effect system - having two or more effects at different pressures with vapour transfer between effects

Evapn. system for liquids uses >=2 effects operating at different temp. levels. Vapour from one is then used to heat liquid in the next. The liquid is evaporated in >=1 of the effects and is condensed in >=2 evapn. stages. The liquid being evaporated in one effect is recycled through the condensn. stage of the next effect which is operating at a higher pressure. In this way the liquor from the previous effect acts as the condenser coolant in the next. Used esp. for evaporating sea water or effluent streams. Uses smaller equipment and is less susceptible to fouling than conventional multi-effect and vertical tube evaporators.
