The multi-stage coder/decoder system corrects and/or detects random or bundled digital transmission errors. At least two stages (inner and outer) are used in which inner and outer coding or decoding employ the same code. The outer coding or decoding is accomplished by spreading. In the case of coding, the coder is connected via switches to input and output's buffers. For decoding, the decoder is connected in the same way via switches to buffers.
