<p>PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound, an intermediate for herbicides having improved selectivity, by reacting hydroguinone with an alkali in an oprotic polar solvent under the nitrogen atmosphere, then with a p-halogenobenzotrifluonide, etc. CONSTITUTION:Hydroquinone is reacted with an alkali, e.g. KOH, etc. in an aprotic polar solvent, e.g. dismethyl sulfoxide, etc. under the nitrogen atmosphere, and the reaction mixture is then reacted with a p-halohenobenzotrifluoride, e.g. p-chloro benzotrifluonide, etc. or 2-halogens-3.5-dichloropyridine, e.g. trichlorophridine, etc. to give a hydroquinone derivative, e.g. 4-trifluoromethyl-4'-hydroxy- diphenyl ether, etc. of formula (X is 4-trifluoromethylphenyl or 3.5-dichloropyridine- 2-yl), in a high yield.</p> |
