<p>PURPOSE:To obtain crystal-contg. blast furnace granulated slag useful as fine aggregate for concrete by charging inorg. metal oxide-contg. seeds into molten blast furnace slag to facilitate crystallization and granulating te slag with water to simultaneously attain reduction of production time and enhancement of the crystal content. CONSTITUTION:Less than 5%, pref. less than 3% of inorg. metal oxide-contg. seeds are charged into molten blast furnace slag and granulated with water to obtain crystal-contg. blast furnace granulated slag. The seeds may be inorg. metal oxides with a diameter of 300mu-10mm. and a m.p. above 1,330 deg.C, e.g. blast furnace slag, steel- making slag, limestone, dolomite or waste molding sand. The seeds are desirable to be charged when the molten slag is at a temp. between the melilite crystallization temp., usually 1,400-1,440 deg.C and 70 deg.C lower than the temp., i.e. 1,330-1,370 deg.C.</p> |
