PURPOSE:To obtain a metal for magnetic metal powder having excellent magnetic characteristic for usage to magnetic recording medium by containing the specific quantities of Al and Ca in Fe. CONSTITUTION:By dispersing powder of oxy-iron hydroxide or iron oxide of alpha-FeO OH, beta-FeO OH, alpha-Fe2O3, gamma-Fe2O3, Fe3O4, etc., into alkali water solution of water soluble salt of Al2(SO4)3, Al(NO3)3, AlCl3, etc., and blowing CO2 gas, Al2O3.nH2O is coated on surface of the powder of the oxy-iron hydroxide or the iron oxide. This is heated to make the powder coating Al2O3. Successively, after coating Ca compound on this as the same way, by heating this under reducing atmosphere of hydrogen, etc., for example at 300-700 deg.C, reduction of compounds of Al and Ca is executed, to manufacture the Fe powder containing 0.05-0.20wt. ratio of Al/Fe and 0.001-0.10wt.% ratio of Ca/Fe. The Fe powder for magnetic recording medium having excellent magnetic characteris tic for usage to magnetic tape and magnetic disk is obtd. |
