1369457 Envelope making machines WINKLER & DUNNEBIER MASCHINENFABRIK UND EISENGIESSEREI KG 7 Dec 1971 [9 Dec 1970] 56835/71 Heading B5D [Also in Division F2] To facilitate the adjustment of various mechanisms that operate on an envelope blank as it travels through an envelope making machine so that the machine can be pre-set to produce envelopes of different sizes the mechanisms are adjusted by hydraulic actuators operated by remote control in accordance with a comparison between a signal corresponding to a desired dimensional characteristic and an appropriate feedback signal received from the adjusted mechanism. The adjustment may be semiautomatic using manually adjustable set value potentiometers or digital preselectors together with push buttons for initiating adjustment; alternatively a fully automatic system employing electronic control and having the dimensional requirements and sequence of adjusting steps on punched card or tape or on magnetic tape may be incorporated. Adjustments are made to the following parameters envelope height, width, flap construction, size and position of window, also to variations of speed of the envelopes through the machine. The envelopes are fed from a stack 1 and a pass in sequence to a printing station 2, window cutting 3, adhesive supply 4 and windows positioning stations 5. At station 6 a staggered stack is formed and the flaps have adhesive supplied thereto at 7. At station 9 the adhesive is dried. At 11 the blanks are separated and at 13, 14 longitudinal and transverse folds are formed and subsequently at stations 15-18 the flaps are folded and adhesive supplied. Finally, finished envelopes are collected at 19. Adjustments concerning width are made while the machine is running but any adjustment relating to the height of the envelope or window are made when the machine is stationary. The hydraulic system consists of an electrically driven pump drawing fluid from a sump, a pressure control valve and filter and flow and return lines; an accumulator may be provided. The machine has a control panel carrying a setvalue potentiometer and push button switches and tell-tale lamps. The lamps are marked + and - and the appropriately lit lamps indicates if that particular dimension is greater or less than the required dimension. Photo-cells detect any jam-up on the machine. |
