<p>The meter has an elliptical cross section core with its magnetic axis aligned with the minor geometric axis and mounted on its major geometric axis inside a cylindrical yoke to form crescent shaped air gaps, and a coil mounted for pivotal movement about the axis of the yoke to move the windings of the coil through predetermined arcs in the air gaps so that for a given increment of current a smaller incremental deflection occurs with the windings near the ends of the air gaps than when they are near the centre of the air gaps. Preferably the meter pointer is biased by a spiral spring towards the lower end of the scale with a torque which is balanced by the torque applied by the coil when supplied with the corresponding current.</p> |
