<p>Alkylene oxides (I) contg. 0.02-5.0 wt. % H2O and organic impurities are purified by extractive distn. using (A) butylene-1,3- and 1,4-glycol isobutylene glycol and/or glycerol and (B) dioxan, BuOAc and/or 2-ethyl-hexanol and collecting the purified (I) as distillate, (A) and (B) being used in consecutive distn. towers or in a mixt. together at the same time. (I) are suitable as starting materials for polymers or other monomers. The process is relatively simple and can be used to remove partic. impurities, e.g. esters, alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, organic acids and H2O. The wt. ratio of the total amt. of solvent (A+B) to crude (I) is 3-20:1, whilst the (A):(B) wt. ratio is 10-90:90-10 (50-80:50-20). The process is esp. suitable for purificn. of n- and 1-3 and 1-4C alkylene oxides.</p> |
