7-AMINO-6,7-DIHYDRO [5H] benzocycloheptenes of the formula <IMAGE> I wherein X is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, chlorine, bromine and iodine in 2- or 4- position of the ring when halogen and R is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and phenyl alkyl of 7 to 10 carbon atoms and their non-toxic, pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts having antidepressive activity and a process for their preparation and novel intermediates.
