This invention relates to a process for continuously preparing an extruded web of flat thermoplastic film for a subsequent winding operation, by providing it with embossed lines, preferably one line along each edge or very near each edge of the web. The embossed lines are applied while the web of film is subjected to tensional forces acting on the edges of the web in the direction of the plane of the web. The embossed and tensioned film is then subjected to a thermal treatment.
