<p>An appts. for growing crystals of high m.pt. oxides in the form of platelets in a metal boat includes a crystallisation chamber contg. an electric resistance heater in the form of windings around the boat which run perpendicularly to the axis of the boat, together with a drive mechanism for linearly moving the boat contG. the melt through the heater which is enclosed in an arrangement of plate-shaped shields. According to the claim, in addition to the plate-shaped shields, an inner layer of shields is provided, consisting of rods of a refractory metal lying parallel and longitudinally adjacent to one another in the region of the heater and extending in the form of a corridor at the outlet from the heater to form a soaking (holding) zone for the boat. The ends of the heater windings are attached to the power supply by a mechanical clamping arrangement, whilst the windings the themselves are so arranged that their upper and lower parts generate a uniform heating effect inside the hollow space in the boat. Large good quality crystals can be grown.</p> |
