1426392 Nickel complexes of hydroxybenzoic acids CIBA-GEIGY AG 20 June 1973 [21 June 1972] 29383/73 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] The invention comprises complexes of the formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> represents H or C 1 to C 5 alkyl and one of the substituents R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> represents C 3 to C 8 alkyl and the other represents -COO<SP>(-)</SP>, m is from 1 to 2, n is from 0 to 2, and L is a ligand (a) of the formula wherein R 4 represents H, C 1 to C 4 alkyl, C 5 to C 10 cycloalkyl, C 6 to C 10 aryl or a radical of the formula R<SP>5</SP> represents H, C 1 to C 4 alkyl or a radical of formula A, or R<SP>4</SP> and R<SP>5</SP> together with the N atom represent a pyrrolidine, piperidine, piperazine or morpholine radical which may be substituted, R<SP>6</SP>, R<SP>7</SP> and R<SP>8</SP> represent H or one of R<SP>6</SP>, R<SP>7</SP> and R<SP>8</SP> represents C 1 to C 4 alkyl, and p is 0 or 1, or (b) of the formula wherein R<SP>9</SP> represents H, C 1 to C 4 alkyl, OH, NH 2 , -CH 2 OCH 2 C(CH 2 OH) 3 or -CH 2 OH, and R<SP>10</SP> represents H, -CH 2 OH or C 1 to C 4 alkyl, or (c) of the formula wherein R<SP>11</SP> represents H, C 1 to C 4 alkyl or -CH 2 OR<SP>12</SP>, and R<SP>12</SP> represents H, C 1 to C 18 alkyl or phenyl, or (d) of the formula wherein R<SP>13</SP> represents -OH, or -OCH 2 CHOHCH 2 OH, R" represents H or C 1 to C 4 alkyl, R<SP>15</SP> represents H or C 1 to C 4 alkyl and q is 2 or 3, or (e) a mixture of the ligands specified under (a), (b), (c) and (d). They may be obtained by (1) dissolving one mole of a compound of the formula in an organic solvent, and heating the solution with ligands L; or (2) refluxing a compound of of the above formula with ligands L in an organic solvent for a lengthy period over a steam trap. Examples are given for the preparation of the complexes. They are useful as stabilizers for polyolefins. |
