PURPOSE:To use a cutting tool ecomomically by making the best use of the high machinability of polycrystals such as cubic boron nitride (hereafter abbreviaged as CBN) or diamonds and also by increasing the re-grinding days. CONSTITUTION:In the case of a cutting tool, a strip substance 1 of CBN or diamond polycrystals is planted into a base metal 2 made of cemented carbide or steel. The strip substance 1 is so planted that not the two opposite longer sides A, B but its shorter side is used a cutting edge. The width L of the substance 1 is to be just the necessary width as a cutting edge when the cutting takes place. It is sufficient to grind following flank 10, 11 for re-grinding, and the re-grinding can be repeated till the polycrystal 1 wears out. |
