Containers are handled by a fork lift truck without pallets by strapping corner pieces (11) at each lower corner of the container. The corner pieces have tapered cylindrical feet (13). Complementary feet (34) are provided having a circular base (35) of greater area than that of the foot (13). The foot (34) has a cylindrical socket in which the foot (13) can nest. The foot (34) is reinforced with circumferentially spaced radial gussets (37) between base (35) and the outer surface of the socket.
