The ultrasonic cleaning unit is for domestic use and has its metal tank fitting inside a plastic outer case. A plastic cover is hinged to the case and has deep sides completely enclosing the walls of the base to provide protection against any undesirable effects of the ultrasonic circuit. As a safety measure, the unit can only be activated when the cover is closed. A magnetically operated switch, in the form of a thin strip of ferrous metal, is located in the base. This is closed by deformation of the strip, when a permanent magnet in the cover approaches it.
