Moving webs were coated effectively, particularly when starting, by coarsening the surface of webs. The coating process improve thick coating, inducting length, and drying time, and includes large surface coarsening with rouletteor small surface coarsening with sand paper. For example, the ratio of the weight of thick coating to that of normal coating was 0.11 when coating triacetyl cellulose film by bead coating method after surface coarsening with roulette.
