A locking device, controlled by an operating means, for a door (5) which seals an opening (2) of a sterilisation chamber (1) in the closed state is designed for the purpose of safeguarding pressure-tight and gas-tight closure of the door (5) even in the event of failure of the operating means, such that it is guided into a state in which opening of the door (5) is permitted on supply of the operating means and into a state in which the door (5) is tightly closed if there is no supply of the operating means. In an advantageous embodiment the locking device has a servomotor (14) controlled by the operating means and a compression spring arrangement (10), the servomotor (14) acting in the opening direction of the door (5) and the compression spring arrangement (10) acting in the closing direction of the door (5). <IMAGE>
