The arrangement is for driving a turbine (7) by gas from a blast furnace (1) and has a system for protecting the turbine consisting of a venturi gas washer (4) to spray cooling water on to the line (2a, b, c, e) connecting the blast furnace with the turbine or into the turbine and/or a shut-off valve (41). It further comprises a sensor (21, 22) to detect blast furnace blow-out. The arrangement is such that the water spray and/or the valve are operated in response to a signal received from the detecting sensors.
