The pneumatically controlled fuel injection system is partic. for a reciprocating piston engine in a motor vehicle. The injection process is entirely controlled and powered by pneumatic parameters of the engine without mechanical or electric drive. The pressure is sensed in each inlet duct (5) immediately upstream of the inlet valve (3) of the cylinder (1), and in the manifold (4), and used in a metering unit (10) which controls the injection timing and quantity. The vacuum above the inlet valve may be sensed by a suction nozzle (7) which is so arranged that the high inlet flow velocity produces an ejector action at the nozzle.
