Plastics material is plasticised by feeding particulate, pulverulent or granular material to the recirculated plasticised mass at the infeed to the plasticising unit to effect quick plasticising by heat conduction from the cylinder walls to the mass and heat transfer to the material due to movement through the mass and whereby reduce the plasticising time, volumetric capacity of the unit and power input requirements. Additionally it is also possible to vary concentration and homogeneity of the melts which may be reinforced with fillers apart from producing uniform melts for thin-waled semi-finished articles. Used in profiled sections, sheets, panel or foils.
