Building block for building walls or partitions has a heat-insulating plate which covers its entire cross-section, moulded into it. It is arranged along the vertical centre plane of the building block and consists of polypropylene, polystyrene or ABS. The building block which may be a cavity block is suitably cast from a pumice stone (particle size 4-10 mm) and cement mixt. The plastics plate is a foamed material.
