Beta-lipoprotein liquid(s) determn. in serum - after extracting other lipoprotein(s) with hydrophobised polycation

Direct determn. of lipids in blood serum is carried out by (a) extracting the pre-beta-lipoprotein (very low density lipoprotein, VLDL) and alpha-lipoprotein (high density lipoprotein, HDL) frm the serum by treating with a hydrophobised polycation (I), opt. together with an unsubstd. polycation and opt. a weak ion exchanger and/or a highly polar lipophilic adsorbent; and (b) determining the lipid content of the remaining beta-lipoprotein (low density lipoprotein), LDL) fraction. Determn. of the LDL lipid (cholesterol and/or triglyceride) content is used for differential diagnosis of fat metabolism function. Compared with the use of an unsubstd. polycation (cf. DY 2600664) much smaller amts. of (I) are required, the reagent soln. is less viscous, and the lipid determn. can be effected by enzymatic as well as chemical methods.
