A long distance ski has the running surface and is fitted with at least one row of projections. They extend parallel to the length of the ski. Each projection has two side surfaces extending perpendicular to the running surface and parallel to the length of the ski. One front surface is positioned perpendicularly to the running surface and points towards the end of the ski. An upper surface inclines from the level of the running surface towards the end of the ski. The row or rows of projections extend along the centre section of the running surface with similar projections of lesser height being provided on either side of the above row. The projections have a convex shape when viewed from the end of the ski and the running surface has bowl recesses in the area of the two end sections of the ski.
