PURPOSE:To prepare esters in high selectivity, by reacting olefins, CO and alcohols in the presence of a catalyst with high reaction activity, which comprises a tetravalent platinum compound, a specific ligand compound, and a halide of NA group metals. CONSTITUTION:Esters are prepared by reacting olefins, CO and alcohols in the presence of a catalyst comprising a tetravalent platinum compound, an amine compound or a compound of the formula (M is P, As, Sb, or Bi; R<1-3> are alkyl, cycloalkyl, etc.) and a halide of IV A group metals. A halogenoplatinie acid ispreferably used as the platinum compound, a tertiary phosphine compound, etc. as the ligand compound, and tin chloride as the halide. The reaction is carried out at 50-150 deg.C under a pressure of 20-100kg/cm<2>-G. 3.8-Nonadienoic acid esters are preferably used as the olefins. |
