PURPOSE:To provide a zinc alloy with an enhanced galvanic anticorrosive effect, obtd. by adding less than 3% of zirconium to zinc or a zinc alloy. CONSTITUTION:Industrial grade pure zirconium or a zirconium alloy such as zircaloy is added to zinc or a zinc alloy. The amt. of the zirconium added is up to about 3% to usual distilled zinc or up to about 0.003-1% and about 0.003-0.2% to usual distilled zinc or most purified zinc for an ordinary temp. brine bath and a high temp. bath, respectively. The zirconium-added zinc is then refined at a temp. necessary for alloying to form an electrode for anticorrosive treatment. In a long-time test of 1,000hr in artifical seawater of ordinary temp. and hot artificial seawater of 80 deg.C, the resulting zinc electrode can maintain effective anticorrosive potential of -1,000mV or higher in reference to a satd. calomel electrode. |
