OXO REACTION CATALYST AND PRODUCTION THEREOF

PURPOSE:To provide the title catalyst of high activity and high selectivity for oxo reaction under mild conditions, which consists of Co and/or Rh and carbon. CONSTITUTION:Co and/or Rh carbonyl cluster such as Rh4 (CO)12 is dissolved in an inert solvent such as hexane. To the soln. is added carbon such as activated carbon under a reduced press. and the solvent is removed by vacuum distillation with stirring. Next the resulting mixt. is heat treated at 50-250 deg.C under a reduced press. of about 10<-5>-10<-1>mm.Hg or in the presence of an inert gas such as H2 or Ar to obtain oxo reaction catalyst. The carbon is desirable to have a large effective surface area and uniform distribution of such a relatively large pore diameter as 10-150Angstrom . The amt. of the metal carbonyl cluster supported on the carbon is desirable to be 50-0.0001wt%. Using this catalyst a mixed gas of olefin, CO and H2 is reacted under ordinary or elevated press. at ordinary temp. -250 deg.C to produce aldehydes.
