1494217 Freezers THOMSON-BRANDT 16 Dec 1974 [18 Dec 1973] 54305/74 Heading F4H In a combined refrigerator and freezer having a cooling circuit containing two evaporators which are fed by a thermostatically controlled compressor unit, and having two compartments, one of which freezes products and preserves products already frozen at a temperature of -18‹ C., whilst the other compartment keeps fresh food at a temperature of between 0‹ C. and 5‹ C., the fresh food compartment contains an electrical resistance heater 9 and the control thermostat 2. The resistance heater 9 is fed via a current regulating device so that the resistance heater 9 operates whilst the compressor is stopped, on the one hand at a fraction of its power while the low temperature compartment is operating to preserve already frozen products, and' on the other hand at full power while the said low temperature compartment is operating to freeze products. The thermostat 2 is connected to the motor 1 of a compressor unit in an electrical control circuit in which the resistance heater 9 is fed via a diode 10 and is in parallel with a manually operable switch 7. In operation, when the low temperature compartment is operating to preserve already frozen goods, switch 7 is open (as shown). As soon as thermostat 2 opens to stop the motor 1, the voltage is applied to the heater 9 and diode 10, diode 10 allowing only one half-cycle of the A.C. current to pass through the resistor 9. When the low temperature compartment is actively to freeze, switch 7 is manually closed, short-circuiting diode 10. When thermostat 2 is now opened, resistance heater 9 operates at full power. |
