The quick clamping mechanism for workpieces is pressure medium operated, and incorporates a safety fitment. After release of a pressure medium switch between a housing part and a pressure-operated clamp part, the mechanism is clamped into position in the securing area. The clamping area is protected by side screen parts (31, 34) and in the feed area (37) a covering swivel plate (40) is fitted. The pressure medium switch (44) is coupled to the swivel plate (40) in such a manner that it only allows pressure medium feed when it is in the closed position.
