The treatment of combusted gases emitted from a Dwight-Lloyd sintering furnace involves arranging the inlet and exhaust of a large number of wind-boxes along the furnace in a forward system of inlets and exhausts and a rearward system of inlets and exhausts. Air is introduced into the forward inlet system and combusted gas is introduced to the rearward admission system after being preheated by the rearward or forward exhaust systems. The gas is first however dehumidified and freed of dust and then after preheating is disulphurised and denitrided. Investment and treatment costs are reduced because by eliminating the impurities, the gas volume is decreased and is therefore easier to handle. Moreover a purer sinterted prod. is produced because the gas is purer.
