Silver halide photographic emulsion has, an active contact with it, an oxidising agent for developed silver with an oxidation potential of -0.08 to +0.05 volt, this agent being unstable and in contact with the emulsion so as to be decomposable in a reasonable time at normal temps. into inoffensive decomposition pdts. The agent is insoluble in water and is present in quantity at least sufficient to oxidise the silver in the crystals or grains of silver halide becoming developable after the emulsion has been applied as a layer on a support and dried. All excess oxidising agent present after the prepn. and the applications of the emulsion layer being capable of decomposition in a reasonable time at normal temps. to leave an insufficient quantity of the oxidising agent for appreciable harm at a normal image exposure and development of the emulsion layer. The presence of the oxidising agent eliminates, or considerably reduces, the formation of chemical mist in silver halide photographic emulsions.
|
