In order to cool a medium circulating in a closed circuit (4) at high ambient temperatures with the aid of low-cost means, it is subjected to a two-stage cooling operation in a planar heat exchanger (5) around which only the ambient air flows as coolant. In the first stage, the more intense cooling is undertaken using uncooled ambient air, while in the second stage the residual, less intense cooling is undertaken using precooled ambient air. The planar heat exchanger (5) can be a dry cooling tower. The method can be applied in order to recool the cooling water required for condensers (2) of thermal power stations. <IMAGE> |
