The moulds for homogeneous alignment of the liquid crystal and for the polarisation filters are produced simultaneously. To this end, a gel (3) of a dichroic dye having a concentration of from 1 to 30 % by weight is applied to the surface of plates (1) intended for contact with the liquid crystal. The gel (3) is then subjected to mechanical treatment to produce a film (4) from the gel (3), a speed gradient of from 10<2> to 10<7> s<-1> being maintained according to the thickness of the film to be produced, after which the solvent is removed from the film (4). The process is preferably intended for the production of liquid-crystal cells for watches and pocket calculators.
