A process for coating a surface with a protective layer of dielectric plastics material, in which the plastics material 12 is heated on a carrier 14 to a temperature at which it is in a liquid state and the surface 17 to be coated is presented above the molten coating material and heated at least to the same temperature, an electrostatic field is created between the molten plastics material and the surface 17 to be coated and this field attracts plastics particles in the state of fine liquid particles onto the hot surface 17 and upon contact with the hot surface 17 the particles form a continuous protective film which is then rapidly cooled, the process making possible the formation of particularly thin and uniform continuous protective coatings, particularly for coating metal packaging means. <IMAGE> |
