PURPOSE:To obtain plastic optical fiber having superior moisture resistance and high heat resistance by constituting a core layer of polydimethyl siloxane, or polysiloxane having phenyl or naphthyl groups, and a jacket layer of polychloro trifluoroethylene. CONSTITUTION:Plastic optical fiber is constituted of a core layer consisting of polydimethyl siloxane or polysiloxane having phenyl groups or naphthyl groups and of a jacket layer consisting of polychloro trifluoroethylene, chloro trifluoroethylene-ethylene copolymer, or vinylidene fluoride/hexafluoro isobutene copolymer. The optical fiber is produced by forming a tube for the clad material, injecting a precursor of a polymer (liquid dimethyl sioxane prepolymer), and curing the injected prepolymer. Thus, plastic optical fiber having high heat resistance and high moisture resistance is obtd. |
