The rate of burning of the fuel of a solid fuel rocket is controlled by the temperature of the fuel and the pressure in the combustion chamber. In order to control the pressure, a valve head (3) is pressed against the edge (9) of the orifice (E) from the chamber (1) by a pillar (4). As the pressure in the combustion chamber increases the valve head (3) is forced away from the orifice with a force sufficient to cause permanent plastic deformation of the pillar (4). The valve is thus opened sufficiently to maintain the correct pressure in the combustion chamber.
|
