Analogue display for electronic watch - using digitally controlled display element groups to indicate hours and minutes hands

The watch has an analogue display via digital control of display element groups, arranged according to a 60 minute period, e.g. with the minute hand represented by the width of one element and the hours hand by the width of five elements. When the representation of the minutes hand (4) coincides with the field of representation of the hours hand (5) one display element comprising the latter is deactivated to leave a space indicating the minutes hand. Each display element may comprise a linear, radial fluidic crystal element, with the fluidic crystal display all positioned beneath a transparent dial face, on which hour numerals or markings may be printed.
