Laser guided mine drill - directs beam through drive and rods to strike sensitised panels on head to correct drill line

The drill for mines, tunnels, drainage etc. has a high precision direction control system with a laser beam which passes through the drive (1) and rods (3) to the drill head where it impinges on sensitised panels which performs a switching function. Preferably the beam generator (2) is clear of the moving parts of the drill and mounted on a stand (9) to allow more accurate adjustments to the beam alignment. The panels on the head are arranged so that if the drill goes off line or the beam deviates to another panel, the deviation is corrected by a correcting mechanism, resulting in forcible action exerted by the drill on the rock etc. The rod should be designed to ensure that regardless of rotation or thrust the electricity supply is maintained to the consumer in the head. The drive thrust applied to the drill rods should be variable to permit continuous rotation, intermittent feed, percussive modes as required.
