The set of steps, used in libraries, offices, kitchens etc. is readily transportable, and has two handles enabling it to fold up into a very compart unit. The step panels (2, 3) and legs (1, 1a) are foldable together by interconnection with a parallelogram guideway (4), and by unhooking the bottom step mounting (8), to such an extent that the max. thickness of the folded unit (D) is less than double the leg thickness (B). The top spacer rod (5) may also serve as hinge axis for the rear legs (1a) and top step (2). This is compact enough for storage under a desk or behind a cupboard.
