The digital control, for a machine tool, uses an electronic pocket calculator with interchangeable memory (16) to communicate with the control circuitry (2). The memory is read by a read circuit (6) connected to the control circuitry. The advantage lies in replacing a permanently assigned computer with a normal office calculator. The input (17) can be coupled to the built-in memory (3) and the control (2) via two reversible leads (A, B). The read-out (6) is also coupled to these components (2, 3) via two reversible leads (C,D).
