1404663 Rolling mills TIMKEN CO 25 July 1972 [4 Nov 1971] 34784/72 Heading B3M A strip rolling mill incorporates a fluid circulating system associated with the roll necks of backing rolls 13 and 14 or work rolls 11 and 12 the system controlling the temperature and shape of these rolls in order to produce a flat strip from the mill. In one form, (which may be water) fluid is forced by a pump 31 (Fig. 2) through conduits 26 to the backing roll necks (Fig. 3), the fluid returning via conduits 25 to return lines 34. The flow of fluid is controlled by valves 38 in response to the temperatures adjacent the roll necks, as measured by thermocouples 39. The fluid is so controlled that a desired heat balance is maintained in the roll necks, the fluid either removing or adding heat. A fluid circulation system is also applied to the chocks of the backing rolls. The fluid flow control valves for this system may be manually or automatically controlled. |
