In a process of manufacturing composite bodies from thermoplastic material and glass fibre-reinforce-ed, hardenable plastics material, thermoplastic sheeting consisting particularly of polymethacrylate (acrylic glass) is used to make a preform which determines the basic shape of the end product and preferably forms its exposed side. The sheeting is coated at least on one side with the glass fibre-reinforced, hardenable plastic material, particularly unsaturated polyester resin (thermosettable resin), with additional use of a bond-improving agent. This coating is compacted and then permitted to harden. The surface of the preform on the side to be coated is contacted with a solvent for the thermoplastic material, which solvent consists, e.g., of an acryl monomer, styrene, acetone, methylene chloride, etc., before or during the application of the coating of the hardenable plastics material and for a time which is sufficient for a slight dissolution of the thermoplastic material in the area to be coated. As a result, the glass fibres can slightly enter the thermoplastic material during the applicattion and/or compacting of the coating material and the end product obtained after the hardening of the hardenable plastics material has a transitional zone in which the thermoplastic material and the glass fibre-reinforced, hardenable plastics material are contained and inseparable joined.
|
