1392912 Device for radioimmunoassay PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN N V 16 April 1973 [19 April 1972] 18190/73 Heading G1B A device for use in radioimmunoassay comprises a reaction vessel 1 containing a completely compressible elastic sponge 10 of synthetic material, the outer and inner surfaces of the sponge being coated with a layer of antibodies or of hormonebinding proteins. In use for the determination of a specific hormone in serum, the serum sample and a known amount of a radio-actively labelled hormone are brought into contact with sponge 10 containing hormone-binding protein, in successive steps or in one step, the liquid is removed from the sponge by compression of the sponge with plunger device 9, 8, 7, and the amount of radioactivity on the sponge or in the liquid is measured and compared with the amount originally added. Examples relate to determining the proportion of insulin in serum samples using a device comprising a polyurethane sponge 10 coated with antibodies to insulin. Other sponge materials mentioned are polyethylene, polypropylene and polystyrene. There is a reference to determination of vitamin B12. |
