1397459 Fastener driving apparatus HILTI AG 14 Dec 1972 [4 Jan 1972] 57748/72 Heading B4C A device for securing an identity plate to a metal billet &c. comprises a fastener driving tool having means to retain a plate in front of its muzzle and means moveable relative to the muzzle to feed a plate from a supply container associated with the tool to a position in front of the nuzzle as the latter is withdrawn from the driving position. The apparatus described is supported by a carriage 2 from a frame (3) Fig. 1 (not shown) to one side of the path of the billets 4 for movement towards and away from the path. A cartridge operated driving tool 5 has a muzzle portion moveable relative to the tool body and fitted with magnets 34 to retain an identity plate 14a while it advances to engage the plate with a billet 4 and secure it with a nail N. Slidably mounted below the tool is a holder 7 for a plate magazine 8, the plates 14 being stacked in overlapping relationship, Figs. 2, 6, with projections 41 engaging rear ends of adjacent plates so that the whole stack may be urged forward by a slider 11 with a step 13 contacting the lowest plate. A coiled strip spring 12 biases the slider which may be withdrawn by a handle 38 to permit reloading. The plate feed device comprises levers 23 pivoted on opposite sides of the holder 7 and joined by a plate 31, Fig. 5. The levers are biased towards the position of Fig. 7 by springs 26 where the leading end of the uppermost plate 14a is engaged by pivoted spring biased jaws 45. The holder 7 is drawn to a retracted position by springs 9 when the tool 5 is advanced to secure a plate, Fig. 7, but when the carriage retracts the tool, the holder abuts the frame 3 so that the tool moves along the holder and a noze 27 engages one of the levers 23 to swing the feed device to the Fig. 2 position. The plate 14a is pivoted about the projection 41 of the preceding plate 14, Fig. 6, to lie across the tool muzzle and be retained by the magnets 34 when the tool is again advanced. The plates may be retained in the magazine by leaf springs or magnets (not illustrated). The feeder jaws could be adjustable for different sizes of plate. The plates could be fed by a sliding member instead of by the means shown. They could be corrugated for stiffness. |
