Open end spinning by feeding fibres onto rotating perforate drum - to which suction is applied, and taking up yarn axially

Open end spinning of yarn is effected by combing a supply of fibres to produce opened fibres which are blown as a jet onto the surface of a rotating perforated roll. Beneath the surface of the roll in the region where the fibres land, a suction is applied obliquely (pref. at an angle of 45 degrees) to the surface of the roll whereby the combined action of this suction and the rotation of the roll spins the fibres into a yarn which is withdrawn axially from the roll. The device is simple and applies a good twist (not just a simple helical twist) to the fibres thereby increasing the strength of the resulting yarn.
