<p>1498294 Liquefied gas storage tanks TECHNIGAZ 21 Jan 1975 [24 Jan 1974 27 Sept 1974] 2638/75 Heading F4P A liquefied gas storage tank comprises a rigid outer wall 1, a sheet metal inner wall 11 having at least one set of parallel inwardly directed wave-like corrugations 29 and an intermediate insulating structure secured to both inner and outer walls and comprising, from the inside, (i) a separating layer 10 of load distributing material having a set of parallel slots 28 extending at least a major part of the way therethrough and coinciding with the corrugations 29, (ii) a fluid-tight secondary barrier 14, 9, and (iii) at least one heat-insulating layer 5, 6. As shown in Fig. 1, the insulating layer 5 comprises a lattice of joists 2 bolted to the wall 1, the spaces thus formed being filled with cellular material, and layer 6 comprises a plurality of rectangular panels comprising, e.g. 3 layers 13 of balsa wood, sandwiched between plywood plates 12, 14, the former being secured to wall 1 by stud bolts 7, the latter forming with plywood strips 9 between adjacent panels, the secondary barrier. Layer 10 is formed of balsawood, plywood or other rigid cellular material. The gaps 8 between adjacent panels 6 and access holes 16 through the panels for securing nuts 15 on bolts 7 are filled with packing material, e.g. PVC. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the joists 2 are omitted, the layer 5 being foamed in situ cellular material.
