PURPOSE:To prepare the title compound which is a flame-retardant, in a high yield, by brominating terephthalic acid in fuming sulfuric acid containing 10 - 30 wt.% of sulfuric anhydride, using iodine as a catalyst under heating the contents at 70 -100 deg.C while suppressing the formation of by-products. |
